The Royal Horseguards Hotel in London was host to the key players from the mastic asphalt industry on Friday 6th June who gathered for the annual AGM and MAC Awards to recognise and celebrate the year’s top projects, contractors and achievements.

Sponsored by SIG Roofing Supplies, the Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC) Awards are one of the waterproofing industry’s most prestigious events and provides the ideal platform for members to honour its top professionals and projects.  With mastic asphalt proven to be the most reliable and durable waterproofing product available, these attributes have contributed to a number of successful projects throughout a continuously positive 2014.

In a field of outstanding entries, Rio Asphalt & Paving Co. Ltd were awarded the highly sought after Contractor of the Year Award for their work on M2 Block at Cadbury’s in Bournville with John Godwin and Managing Director Ian Deacon accepting the award on behalf of the company.

Runners up were Knight Asphalte Co. Ltd for their waterproofing work at Waitrose, Wimborne with Ken and Peter Knight accepting the award for their Maidstone based company.

Following the awards presentation, the guests were entertained by guest speaker Jeff Stelling, who humorously reflected on his career in TV and sport including his work on Countdown, The Winning Post and most notably as Sky Sports’ leading sports presenter on Soccer Saturday.

Every year the AGM is organised and held by the Mastic Asphalt Council, a non-profit making independent body that represents more than 90 companies including the UK’s leading mastic asphalt contractors and manufacturers.

The Mastic Asphalt Council AGM is always a celebration of the past year’s successes and its awards has grown in terms of both attendees and projects to celebrate. Mastic Asphalt is still the best waterproofing solution and all involved are confident that specifiers rely on the proven performance and longevity of mastic asphalt.

The council offer free technical advice to specifiers and contractors and also manage the craft training carried out at Hackney College.
