Alexandra Road Estate, Camden« Back To Projects
Over 16,000 square metres of Permaphalt polymer modified asphalt was installed for the London Borough of Camden, on the largest roof refurbishment project ever won by contractor Apollo.
Apollo used 70 operatives on site at the Grade II Listed Alexandra Road Estate for a 56-week contract worth £7.1 million.
Built in three blocks in the 1970s, the 500+ homes have inverted roof systems, balconies and walkways. Apollo is removing a ten-year-old single layer rubberised membrane and installing 30mm of Permaphalt topped with paving blocks, to the specification of architect Levitt Bernstein, plus pebble-filled gabions for efficient drainage.
Over 15km of chasing was cut in the concrete structures, to provide a long lasting weatherproof key for the Permaphalt on upstands. In addition, all roof top water tanks have been removed and replaced by Apollo to enable mastic asphalt to be laid beneath.
