The winners of the Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC) Awards 2026 have been announced following a celebration of excellence across the mastic asphalt industry.
On Friday 5th June 2026, the sector gathered at London’s Royal Horseguards Hotel for the MAC Awards and Luncheon. The event, headline sponsored by AccuRoof, part of SIG Roofing, recognised outstanding projects and individual achievements while celebrating the skill, innovation and professionalism that continues to drive the industry forward.
Awards were presented across four project categories: General Works, Development and Hybrid Project of the Year; Heritage Project of the Year; Car Decks and Paving Project of the Year; and Small Works Project of the Year. A Sustainability Award was presented, alongside an overall Contractor of the Year accolade and the Apprentice of the Year Award.
Following the awards presentation, guests were entertained by former rugby union international player James Haskell. Now an accomplished broadcaster, DJ, author, and popular after-dinner speaker, James shared entertaining stories from his sporting career, leadership experiences and life beyond rugby, providing a humorous and engaging end to the afternoon.
The event also raised an impressive £2,885 for Caring Matters Now, the UK charity supporting individuals and families affected by Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN) – a genetic condition, consisting of a birthmark covering up to 80% of the body.
The MAC Awards and Luncheon 2026 was made possible thanks to the support of Headline Sponsor AccuRoof. Additional sponsorship was provided by IKO PLC UK (Guest Speaker), BriggsAmasco (Apprentice of the Year), W J Horrod (Contractor of the Year), Shield Membranes (Pre-Dinner Drinks Reception) and John Fetherston Asphalt Roofing (Table Drinks).
General Works, Development and Hybrid Project of the Year

Winner: John Fetherstone Asphalt Roofing, Portlaoise Garda Station
Highly Commended: Rio Asphalt & Paving Co Ltd – Cardinal Square, Derby
John Fetherston Asphalt Roofing received the award for the impressive roof refurbishment carried out at Portlaoise Garda Station in County Laois, Republic of Ireland.
The 1,400m² roof refurbishment involved installing an IKO Ultra T-O vapour control layer, tapered insulation to create the required falls, and an IKO Permaphalt mastic asphalt waterproofing system. Working across a roof of this scale required exceptional attention to detail, with every stage completed in strict accordance with the project specification. The judges were particularly impressed by the team’s consistently high standard of workmanship, delivering a durable, high-quality roofing solution built for long-term performance.
Due to the large project area and with multiple layers of work involved, each stage had to be accurate and consistent across the full roof, as even a small deviation could have impacted on the durability and performance of the roof.
Heritage Project of the Year

Winner: Sussex Asphalte – Herstmonceux Castle
Highly Commended: Abbey Asphalt Roofing Ltd – Southampton Art Gallery
Sussex Asphalte’s exceptional restoration work was recognised at Herstmonceux Castle, a Grade II listed building and Scheduled Monument in East Sussex which dates back to the 15th century and is recognised on the National Heritage List for England. It is now a unique visitor attraction with over 600 acres of woodland, wild?ower meadows, and gardens, and also serves as a college and international study centre.
Working closely with the main contractor, the team delivered complex remedial works using an IKO Permaphalt mastic asphalt system, carefully balancing modern waterproofing performance with the preservation of the castle’s historic character. The judges were particularly impressed by the team’s craftsmanship, technical expertise and collaborative approach in overcoming challenging access constraints, intricate detailing and unforeseen issues to deliver a durable solution that respected the building’s heritage.
Car Decks and Paving Project of the Year

Winner: BriggsAmasco – Hemel Hempstead Multi-Storey Car Park
Highly Commended: NRA Roofing & Flooring Services Ltd – Guildford Borough Council Car Park
BriggsAmasco secured the Car Decks and Paving Project of the Year Award for the successful delivery of the waterproofing system at Hemel Hempstead Multi-Storey Car Park. Covering more than 2,300m², the project involved the design and installation of a high-performance IKO Permapark mastic asphalt waterproofing system, delivering long-term protection for a heavily trafficked structure.
A defining feature of this project was the method of installation, which relied entirely on hot charge delivery, luggers, and hand laying techniques – a highly skilled approach rarely carried out at this scale on a modern multi-storey car park.
Due to access constraints, sequencing, and the nature of the structure, conventional mechanical installation methods were not viable. Instead, asphalt was delivered in hot charges, maintaining strict temperature control from production to placement. It was transported across the structure using luggers, requiring careful coordination to preserve material workability. The asphalt was hand laid by skilled operatives, ensuring precise control over thickness, compaction, and finish.
Small Works Project of the Year

Winner: Bespoke Asphalt – St Nicholas Church, South Ockenden
Highly Commended: Sussex Asphalte – Brighton Centre
Bespoke Asphalt received the Small Works Project of the Year Award for the restoration of the apse roof at St Nicholas Church, a historically significant building requiring a sensitive conservation-led approach. The project involved carefully removing the deteriorated asphalt roof covering before installing new free-standing kerbs and a traditional multi-coat mastic asphalt roofing system, finished with solar reflective paint to enhance durability and weather protection while preserving the church’s architectural character.
A key challenge was the apse’s curved roof geometry, which required every kerb to be individually measured, cut and formed to achieve a precise fit. Restricted access and the height of the structure added further complexity, demanding meticulous planning and close collaboration with English Heritage throughout the works. The judges were impressed by the team’s technical expertise and ability to deliver a high-quality waterproofing solution that respected the historic fabric of this important building.
Sustainability Award

Winner: Bespoke Asphalt – Camden Road Steps Project
Bespoke Asphalt received the Sustainability Award in recognition of an impressive asphalt steps project carried out in Camden Road. The work was completed with sustainability in mind, with 90% of the ripped-up asphalt being recycled and reused within the works. This reduced waste, lowered material consumption, and helped minimise the overall environmental impact of the project.
One of the main challenges was maintaining access and safety while carrying out the asphalt step reconstruction works. Additional care was required during the removal and reuse process to ensure the recycled asphalt material met the necessary quality standards for reinstatement. Weather conditions and working within restricted site areas also required careful planning and co-ordination to keep the project on schedule.
Contractor of the Year Award

Winner: Sussex Asphalte
Sussex Asphalte won the prestigious accolade of MAC Contractor of the Year for 2026. The company secured a successful “double” at the awards by also winning the Heritage of the Year Award for the work carried out at Herstmonceux Castle. The award recognised Sussex Asphalte for the company’s overall quality craftmanship and commitment to excellence in the construction industry.
Apprentice of the Year Sponsored by BriggsAmasco

Winner: Brad Edwicker, Abbey Asphalt Roofing
Brad Edwicker from Abbey Asphalt Roofing took home the Apprentice of the Year award. Sponsored by BriggsAmasco, this prestigious honour recognised his outstanding commitment, technical hard work, and bright future within the roofing industry. Brad was presented with the accolade by James Haskell and Tony Lawther, Managing Director of BriggsAmasco.
Concluding the event, MAC Director Bryn Apperley said: “The MAC Awards continue to showcase the exceptional quality, craftsmanship and innovation that exists throughout the mastic asphalt industry. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, highly commended nominees and finalists. We are also extremely grateful to our sponsors, whose continued support helps make this celebration of excellence possible each year.”
