The Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC), the official trade association for the mastic asphalt sector in the UK, has appointed Bryn Apperley as MAC Director.

Bryn PhotoBryn is succeeding Malcolm Grinstead who will officially retire from the Mastic Asphalt Council on 31st October 2025, marking the conclusion of an impressive 55-year career in the mastic asphalt industry.

Bryn brings a wealth of experience to the MAC Director role, having worked at roofing and waterproofing systems manufacturer IKO for over 40 years. He formerly worked at IKO’s Grangemill site as Production Manager, with responsibility for managing the manufacturing team.

He said: “I was delighted to accept the role of MAC Director and am looking forward to continuing the great work that Malcolm Grinstead has carried out over the past eight years. I’ll be continuing to push the industry forward and banging the drum about the many performance benefits of mastic asphalt such as its carbon neutral credentials and exceptional waterproofing properties.

“The mastic asphalt sector is a fantastic industry to be in, with an excellent apprenticeship scheme and great long-term prospects for young people, so it’s very important that we attract new talent whilst retaining experienced workers. I’m looking forward to liaising with MAC members and providing them with support over the coming months,” Bryn continued.

Outside of work, Bryn is a passionate football supporter. He was previously Vice Chair and Chairman of Matlock Town FC, having been on the Committee for around 14 years.
